Asta Rudminaitė creates richly layered paintings in which personal memories, relationships and nature are transformed into symbolic pictorial worlds. Her work often begins with something concrete — an encounter, a journey, a landscape, a shared meal or a person from her immediate surroundings — and opens into a freer visual space where different times, places and layers of meaning can coexist.
People, animals, flowers, plants and everyday objects take on a significance beyond their immediate presence, becoming carriers of memory, connection, loss, longing and vitality. Her paintings move between portraiture and narrative, autobiography and allegory.
The human figure forms an important strand of her practice; the natural world is equally present, from blossom studies and landscapes to works in which gardens, trees, water and organic forms become part of the emotional structure of the image.
Asta received her early artistic training at the M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art in Vilnius and later studied at the Vilnius Art Institute, where she developed a broad foundation in drawing, printmaking, painting and mixed media. She went on to work in design, scenography and graphic design. Since settling in Maastricht in 2010, she has increasingly focused on painting, developing the personal visual language that characterises her work today.
